Kevin Sumlin, Butch Jones could be candidates for Arizona job
Kevin Sumlin and Butch Jones are two early names being mentioned in connection with the head coaching vacancy at Arizona.
The Wildcats on Tuesday night decided to fire Rich Rodriguez, who is being accused of workplace misconduct by his former administrative assistant. Arizona is an attractive job because of the promise Khalil Tate showed as a dual-threat QB, and because the program’s rival just hired Herm Edwards, whom many feel is an unqualified candidate.
SI’s Bruce Feldman says both Sumlin and Jones could be candidates for the job.
Wildcat Authority’s Jason Scheer says Arizona will definitely pursue Sumlin.
Initial thought: I think Sumlin will be difficult to land. More likely to sit out a year. Know for a fact Arizona will make a run at him.

Scheer also says Jones’ friendship with Rodriguez makes him an unlikely hire.
I think Butch Jones is an interesting hire for one big reason: He is friends with Rich Rodriguez. For that, hard to see him as an option.

Sumlin is available after being fired by Texas A&M at the conclusion of the regular season. Jones was fired by Tennessee.
