Florida State football commit Malik Henry has left IMG Academy in Florida after a clash with coaches, according to reports.
Henry is one of the top quarterback recruits in the country and committed to FSU in November during his junior season at Westlake (Westlake Village, Calif.) High School. After he committed, he moved to Florida and enrolled at IMG for the remainder of his junior year. He was planning to play for them during his senior season, but those plans have changed.
“We have made a decision and Malik Henry will not be returning to IMG Academy next year. Malik is a very talented athlete and we wish him the very best in his future,” IMG head coach Kevin Wright said in a statement.
Tomahawk Nation reports that Henry clashed with the coaches after Chris Weinke left.
Sources say that in the wake of coach Chris Weinke leaving to take the St. Louis Rams QB coaching position, Henry clashed with the new coaching staff and had recurring attitude and maturity issues.
Henry is said to be looking at moving back to California. He is unlikely to return to Westlake, likely because transfer rules would pose a problem. Additionally, a coaching change at Westlake has led to an exodus of some of the school’s top players.
