Ohio State says Greg Schiano is pursuing NFL opportunities
Greg Schiano is leaving his role as Ohio State’s defensive coordinator, and now we know why.
In a statement posted to Twitter, Buckeyes coach Ryan Day thanked Schiano for his service to the university, and added that the coach was leaving to pursue opportunities in the NFL.

Schiano may have NFL interest as a defensive coordinator. There was some talk of him joining the New England Patriots as defensive coordinator last season, but he ultimately passed on the chance. He appears much more willing to take the jump a year later, perhaps because of Urban Meyer’s departure as Ohio State’s head coach.
Schiano’s most recent stint in the NFL was an unsuccessful two years as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2012 to 2013.
