Oklahoma QB: Ohio State has a ‘really basic defense’

One of Oklahoma’s quarterbacks gave Ohio State some bulletin board material heading into Saturday’s game between the programs.
Oklahoma backup quarterback Austin Kendall appeared on FOX Sports Oklahoma to preview the Sooners’ game at home against the highly-ranked Buckeyes. And let’s just say Kendall didn’t give much respect to Ohio State’s defense.

“I think they have a really basic defense,” said Kendall. “Baker (Mayfield) – he’ll light them up. I’m really looking forward to it, and if my number’s called, I think I can do the same.”
Oof.
You like to see that sort of confidence from a player, but at the same time you don’t want him saying anything that could give your opponent any extra motivation. That was a bad move.
A few Buckeyes have already responded to the disrespect:

You should watch what you say to them bullets

Mind you it wasn’t exactly against the fiercest of opponents, but Ohio State has only allowed 13 points in two games this season. I’d hardly call them pushovers.
Kendall just learned he should probably leave the trash talk to guys who are more likely to be playing in the actual game. And for his sake, let’s hope his confident words produce a better result than they did for this backup who also talked trash.
