Ryan Day answers whether he would leave Ohio State for NFL

Ryan Day

There has been a trend in the NFL in recent years of teams hiring young coaches who specialize in offense, and Ryan Day fits that description. Many have wondered if the Ohio State coach will be the next to make the jump, but he insists he is not thinking about that.

Day was asked during an interview with the Big Ten Network this week about the possibility of him exploring opportunities in the NFL. The 42-year-old stopped short of ruling it out, but he said he could not be happier at Ohio State.

“In this profession, in this world right now, if you’re not winning, they’re going to talk about replacing you. If you do well, they’re going to talk about maybe you going somewhere else,” Day said, via Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors. “So there’s always going to be talk like that. I love Ohio State. I love this place. My family loves it here. I tell recruits all the time, if I was to go take another job, I’d be going by myself because my family’s not leaving Columbus. And that’s the truth. They love it here.”

Day has yet to be linked to any NFL head coaching jobs. He has one of the best jobs in college football, so it makes sense that he wants to hold onto that for as long as he can. He should be feeling even more motivated in 2022 after watching rival Michigan reach the College Football Playoff, which even led to Day being trolled by Wolverines fans.

It will be interesting to see if Day can continue to win at Ohio State. He inherited a program that had been built up by Urban Meyer. He has been needled by other top college coaches over that. NFL teams probably want to see more from Day before they show interest, so he doesn’t have to make any decisions at the moment.
