UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava getting tackled from behind

UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava had to be assisted off the field Saturday after taking a huge hit in the closing stages of his team’s game against Maryland.

The Bruins led the Terrapins 14-10 just before the two-minute timeout at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. UCLA ran a pass play while facing 3rd-and-14 at Maryland’s 24.

Iamaleava faked a pass and rolled right. The little hesitation allowed Maryland lineman Sidney Stewart to catch up to him. Stewart crushed Iamaleava from his blind side just as the QB let go of his throw. Iamaleava was seen grimacing while holding onto his leg.

The Bruins kicked the field goal to extend their lead to 17-10. The Terrapins scored a game-tying touchdown with 44 seconds left in the contest. In just over a minute of game action, Iamaleava felt good enough to come back.

Iamaleava led UCLA downfield with a couple of sharp passes that allowed the Bruins to kick the game-winning field goal. He went 21/35 for 221 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

It was quite the roller coaster affair for both UCLA fans and Iamaleava himself.
