Three top-10 teams lose within minutes of each other on wild Saturday

College football reminded everyone on Saturday what makes it so much fun to watch.

Within minutes of each other, three top-10 teams all went down on Saturday evening.

No. 2 Georgia got throttled by No. 13 LSU, losing 36-16 in Death Valley. The Tigers rushed for 275 yards in the convincing win. Bulldogs quarterback Jake Fromm had an ugly day, going 16/34 for 209 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Shortly thereafter, No. 7 Washington lost 30-27 in overtime to No. 17 Oregon. The Huskies missed a 37-yard field goal as time expired in regulation to send the game to OT.

Washington got the ball first and took the ball down to the Oregon 3, but they stalled there and kicked a field goal to take a lead. Oregon got the ball in return and CJ Verdell ran for a 6-yard touchdown to win the game.

Washington played much of the game without star running back Myles Gaskin, who left in the second quarter with a shoulder injury.

Then minutes after Oregon’s win over Washington, No. 8 Penn State lost to Michigan State. The Nittany Lions were up 17-14 with under two minutes to go but got forced into a 3-and-out and punted. Michigan State got the ball at their 24 with 1:10 to go and improbably drove for a touchdown, taking the lead on a 25-yard touchdown pass to Felton Davis III with 19 seconds left. The defense held on for the team’s second win over Penn State in as many seasons.

Texas and UCF, two other top-10 teams, were involved in close games but held on for wins. Expect to see a major change at the top of the rankings in college football after these results. And expect to see a big jump up the ranks for LSU and Oregon.
