NFL insider reveals when Aaron Rodgers might sign with Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting on a decision from free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but there is some reason to believe the saga might be nearing a conclusion.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport was asked about the Steelers’ pursuit of Rodgers on “The Pat McAfee Show” Tuesday. Rapoport said very little has transpired in recent weeks, and the Steelers are still not completely certain that Rodgers will sign with them.

Rapoport added, however, that next week’s mandatory minicamp would be a sensible time for Rodgers to make a decision.

“This time next week, when the Steelers do mandatory minicamp, maybe it changes. That might be interesting,” Rapoport said. “That would be a time when it would make sense for him to go in, sign if he’s going to sign, get his playbook, go home for the summer, everything’s good.

“That’s my thought. That makes the most sense. But it is Aaron Rodgers, so I would literally rule nothing out.”

The upcoming mandatory minicamp would be Rodgers’ last chance to get any face time with the team until training camp starts in late July. If minicamp passes without a deal, it is entirely plausible that he could keep the organization waiting for another month without falling any further behind. The Steelers do appear open to waiting that long, though that is not certain.

For his part, Rodgers has dropped some hints about joining the Steelers, but he might just be having fun with the rumors. Perhaps next week will provide some clarity.
