Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce seems to be running out of patience with his offense, at least as it is currently constructed.
Pierce on Wednesday offered a strong public warning to Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy as the team continues to struggle on that side of the ball. While Pierce made clear that the offense’s struggles are a collective failure and not solely down to Getsy, he certainly indicated he wants to see more from his offensive coordinator.
“Yeah, I think it has to get better,” Pierce said of Getsy’s play-calling, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “There’s been a lot of opportunities for us to score points and make opportunities. And, yeah, that’s on the play-caller. But then also, like I told our staff, and I told our players, it’s all of us. It’s easy to sit here and just point the finger at Luke, or myself, but you look at O-line play, quarterbacks, running backs, turnovers, missed blocks, missed executions on plays, alignments on details — all those things have got to get cleaned up.
“So, yeah, it does start with the coordinator. He’s got to be the one that takes the fall for that and gets most of the blame. But it is collective.”
Regardless of the assurances offered, this is not exactly a vote of confidence in Getsy. It does not exactly help that Getsy was quite clearly not the Raiders’ first choice for the job, either.
The Raiders are bottom ten in points for and total yards, and their quarterback situation is not a good one. There may only be so much Getsy can do about any of that.
