Bills want to use Zack Moss in Frank Gore role

Zack Moss

The Buffalo Bills appear committed to continuing with a two-back approach out of the backfield in 2020.

The Bills have both Devin Singletary and rookie Zack Moss as leading backfield options for the upcoming season. While Singletary is the more experienced veteran, the team still intends to make extensive use of Moss. General manager Brandon Beane envisions the team using him the same way Frank Gore was used in 2019, according to Maddy Glab of the team’s official website.

Gore got plenty of touches for the Bills in 2019. In fact, though Singletary had more rushing yards, it was Gore who led the team in touches. Singletary has more speed and burst in the open field, but Moss is more of a power runner who can break tackles and also catch passes. Perhaps that will lead to an increased red zone presence for Moss.

The Bills have done a lot to upgrade their offense this offseason. It could be a more exciting unit than it has been in the past. Moss certainly seems to fit into that vision. The Bills drafted him in the third round, and they definitely seem intent on using him despite Singletary’s upside.
