Brandon Marshall on Jay Cutler: I would have buyer’s remorse, too

Jay-Cutler

Brandon Marshall and Jay Cutler have a great relationship that stems back to their days together with the Denver Broncos. Marshall has always been Cutler’s favorite target, but even Jay’s buddy can’t excuse the Chicago Bears quarterback’s poor play this season.

Marshall made an appearance on WMVP-AM Monday after he was placed on injured reserve with a collapsed lung and broken ribs. The wide receiver was asked about a recent report that indicates the Bears are feeling “buyer’s remorse” after signing Cutler to a huge contract extension last winter.

“That’s tough, man,” Marshall said, per Rich Campbell of The Chicago Tribune. “What I would say is we all know Jay is more than capable of getting it done. It doesn’t always fall on him. I guess that’s why those guys are the highest paid players out there. Because when you win and everything is going good, they get all the glory. And when it’s bad, they take more than what they should take. But I can understand that as far as a business man, I would have buyer’s remorse, too.”

Many expected the Bears to be an offensive juggernaut this season. Marc Trestman is one of the best offensive coaches in football and Marshall and Alshon Jeffery may be the best receiver tandem in the game.

But it didn’t happen.

Marshall was quick to point out that Chicago’s offensive woes are “not all Jay’s fault,” but Cutler is the root of many of the team’s problems. He throws off his back foot too much and makes poor decisions, which has resulted in 15 interceptions in 13 games.

Cutler carries a cap hit of $12.5 million in 2015. If Trestman thinks he can win with another quarterback, he could very well look to trade the 31-year-old.
