New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is doing nothing to shut down talk of Jaxson Dart potentially taking over as the team’s starting quarterback going forward.
Daboll refused to commit to Russell Wilson as the Giants’ starter on Monday, saying the team will “evaluate everything” this week after watching the game tape. The coach was also asked if Dart had accomplished all the steps required to become the starter, and Daboll essentially said yes.
“We put him in the game the last two weeks. So we wouldn’t put anyone in the game we don’t feel confident with,” Daboll said.
Daboll left the door to make a QB change. Bizarre press conference.

When asked if Jaxson Dart had already reached all the checkpoints:
"Well we put him in the game the last two weeks. So we wouldn't put anyone in the game we don't feel confident with." https://t.co/36OIybORVp
Daboll was similarly reluctant to fully commit to Wilson last week, though he did not make a quarterback change for the team’s Week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The coach was not rewarded for his patience, as Wilson played poorly in a 22-9 loss, going 18/32 for 160 yards with two interceptions.
Giants fans have made it very clear that they want to see Dart, who the team selected No. 25 overall in April’s NFL Draft. An 0-3 start and Wilson’s unconvincing play has only added more pressure on Daboll to make a change.
Generally, coaches are not this non-committal about quarterbacks unless they are about to make a change. The Giants would be putting Dart in a tough spot, as they face the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. Another poor showing from Wilson, however, and fans could turn on the team entirely.
