Browns OL coach Andy Moeller allegedly assaulted woman
The Cleveland Browns announced on Monday that they have suspended offensive line coach Andy Moeller indefinitely, and a report says he is being investigated for an alleged assault.
According to ESPN’s Pat McManoman, a woman who was a guest of Moeller’s over the weekend called Berea police to report that she was assaulted. When police arrived, she was unsure if she wanted to press charges, but officers still took down a report of the incident. The city prosecutor will decide whether to charge Moeller with a crime. The incident was classified as an assault rather than a domestic assault simply because of the technicality that the woman, who is from Maryland, was not Moeller’s wife or live-in girlfriend.
The Browns addressed the matter Monday by issuing a statement.
“Over the weekend, Andy was involved in an incident, involving allegations that we take very seriously,” the team said in the statement. “We have followed our internal protocol, determining that right now it is best for the team and for Andy to take time away from the organization to focus on his personal matters.
“We are going to respect the process of investigation on this personal matter and will have no further comment at this time.”
Two assistant coaches will take care of Moeller’s duties for the time being.
This is the latest in a string of legal matters for Moeller. He was also suspended and fined while with the Ravens in 2011 because of a DUI charge from 2010. That incident marked Moeller’s third alcohol-related arrested in a four-year span.
