Chiefs make big decision with Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs have yet to reveal the extent of Rashee Rice’s knee injury, but the star wide receiver will officially miss at least the next four games.
The Chiefs announced on Thursday that they have placed Rice on injured reserve. That means he will have to sit out a minimum of four games before he is eligible to return.
Rice was carted off the field after he suffered a knee injury during the first quarter of Kansas City’s 17-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The injury occurred when Patrick Mahomes took out Rice’s right leg while the quarterback was trying to make a tackle after throwing an interception. You can see the freak play here.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told a reporter during the game that Rice’s knee injury “doesn’t look good.” There was then a report that Rice tore his ACL and would miss the remainder of the season.
On Thursday, however, Reid told the media that the Chiefs are waiting for the swelling to subside in Rice’s knee before conducting further tests. It is possible that Rice avoided a torn ACL, though it remains unclear how long he could be out.
Rice leads the Chiefs this year with 24 catches for 288 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kansas City hosts the New Orleans Saints on Monday night and then has a bye, so Rice will have an additional week to rest while he is on IR.
