Colin Kaepernick: 49ers need to change culture to contend again
Remember that culture of toughness and winning that Jim Harbaugh instituted in San Francisco? It took just two years for it to erode completely.
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick believes that the 49ers need a full-scale culture change before they can be successful again.
“That’s always hard to tell,” Kaepernick said when asked how close the Niners were to contending again, via Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. “It can be pieces here and there that make a huge difference. And it can also be the culture of this team changing, which it needs to. We have to be able to create our opportunities and go out and create wins for our team.
“We have to create a culture of winning, and winning by any means. Right now, our culture isn’t that. We have to be able to improve and create that.”
The 49ers are now just 6-24 in their last two seasons. Whatever mentality Harbaugh instilled in the franchise is long gone now. Of course, it’s an open question as to whether Kaepernick will stick around to help create that culture of winning.
