DeVante Parker to remain with Dolphins on new two-year deal

March 12, 2019 by Steve DelVecchio • Comments

DeVante Parker has largely been a disappointment with the Miami Dolphins since they drafted him in the first round back in 2015, but the wide receiver will get another chance to prove himself with a new coaching staff in place.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Parker has agreed to a new two-year deal with the Dolphins.

My understanding is Parker's deal will be worth up to $13 million with incentives. https://t.co/ANrQfO08s7

The Dolphins had previously picked up the fifth-year option on Parker’s rookie contract, and he was set to earn $9 million in 2019. There had been reports that they planned to move on from him, and the former Louisville star probably knew he would not get anything close to $9 million per season on the open market.

Parker battled some injuries last season and ended up with just 24 catches for 309 yards, and his agent raised some questions about whether former Dolphins coach Adam Gase was lying about the receiver’s health. Though Parker’s time in Miami has not gone expected, the Dolphins have a new coach and will likely have a new quarterback in the near future. He has a great opportunity to prove the Dolphins did not make a mistake by drafting him No. 14 overall.
