Dolphins sign 4-time Pro Bowl pass rusher

The Miami Dolphins are hoping that some veteran help can get them back on the right track heading into the postseason.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported Tuesday that the Dolphins have signed veteran pass rusher Justin Houston in free agency. Houston was available after being waived by the Carolina Panthers last month.

The four-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro Houston has recorded 112.0 sacks in his 13-year NFL career (tied for third among active players). While Houston is 34 now and had a forgettable stint with Carolina, he did log a team-leading 9.5 sacks just last season for the Baltimore Ravens.

Miami, losers of three of their last four games heading into their Wild Card round matchup against Kansas City, badly need the help on the edge. Jaelan Phillips went on season-ending IR in November, and another key Dolphins pass rusher just suffered a crushing injury in garbage time of Week 18. With LBs Andrew Van Ginkel and Jerome Baker also among those finished for the year, Houston should provide meaningful depth at a snake-bitten position.
