Ex-Packers reveal how Mike McCarthy used to punish them with lousy hotels

Mike McCarthy

The Green Bay Packers lost their eighth consecutive road game on Sunday night, which marks their longest losing streak away from Lambeau Field since the team lost nine in a row 40 years ago. And if head coach Mike McCarthy is still punishing his team for road losses the way he used to, Packers players may have to sleep in the worst hotel Chicago has to offer in a few weeks.

Following Green Bay’s 24-17 loss in Minnesota, ex-Packers defensive back Will Blackmon shared a funny story on Twitter about how McCarthy used to make the team stay in cheap hotels when they lost games on the road.

As soon as Blackmon spilled the beans, a handful of his ex-teammates couldn’t wait to share their own versions of the same story. Future Hall of Famer Charles Woodson, ex-Packers wide receivers James Jones and Donald Driver and running back Ryan Grant all chimed in.

If that was after a four-game losing streak, we should all pray for the Packers when they travel to face the Bears in Week 15.

For what it’s worth, Blackmon later admitted that the players found it hilarious and noted that it was mostly the same group that won a Super Bowl under McCarthy two years later. With the Packers all but eliminated from playoff contention following their latest loss and rumors swirling about McCarthy’s job security, he may not be in the mood for practical jokes down the stretch this season.
