The San Francisco 49ers have lost an asset to an NFC West rival, and tight end George Kittle isn’t happy about it.
On Sunday, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported that the Seattle Seahawks are bringing in 49ers tight ends coach Brian Fleury to be their offensive coordinator.
Pelissero’s colleague, Ian Rapoport, reposted that report and drew a one-word reaction from Kittle, who simply wrote “Sad” as a comment.
Kittle clearly did not have to say a lot to show how he truly felt about Fleury’s move to the Seahawks.
Fleury had been with the Niners since 2019, when he served as the team’s defensive quality control coach. He later worked as San Francisco’s offensive quality control coach before becoming the team’s tight ends coach.
While Fleury isn’t the shiniest coaching name out there, he’s made an impact on Kittle. Dating back to the 2019 season, when Fleury started working for San Francisco, Kittle has earned a total of six Pro Bowl nods. Fleury had never been a tight ends coach before taking the role with the 49ers in 2022, but he seems to have done the job well, judging by the kind of player Kittle has become.
Fleury, who was a quarterback for Maryland and Towson during his college football days, now fills the void left by Klint Kubiak in Seattle.
