Jed York leaves door open to extensions for Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch

It’s fair to say that the San Francisco 49ers have a lot of faith in the two men who are running the football side of things.

In their third year since being paired together to turn around the franchise, GM John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan have the 49ers in the Super Bowl. That’s amazing news for 49ers CEO Jed York, who would even consider extending the pair’s contracts at this point.

“I want those guys here for a long time,” York said, via Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group. “If they want to do something, I’d be happy to do it.”

Both Lynch and Shanahan are finishing up the third year of the six-year deals they initially signed, so this probably isn’t a huge priority. That said, it’s a sign of how much faith York has in his braintrust after how quickly they turned the franchise around. That respect was shown in how York stepped aside to let Shanahan have a very cool moment with his father after winning the NFC Championship.
