Jermaine Whitehead works out for Raiders week after threatening tweets

Jermaine Whitehead cost himself a spot on the Cleveland Browns’ roster with some ill-advised social media activity about a week ago, but it may not prevent him from finding work in the NFL again this season.

Whitehead worked out for the Oakland Raiders on Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

The Raiders are dealing with numerous injuries to their secondary, as Karl Joseph was recently placed on injured reserve and Lamarcus Joyner is also banged up. They signed veteran safety DJ Swearinger recently and are looking for some more depth additions, which is why they are giving Whitehead a look.

Whitehead had his effort questioned in Cleveland’s 25-19 loss to the Denver Broncos last week, and he went ballistic when he was criticized on social media. He replied to a bunch of people and challenged many of them to fights end even threatened to kill one. When his Twitter account was suspended, Whitehead moved over to Instagram and continued going after haters.

Whitehead is only in his third NFL season, so he was waived by the Browns instead of being released outright. The former Auburn star cleared waivers and is now a free agent.
