Jerry Jones is already talking up his young in-house backup quarterbacks
You didn’t really think Jerry Jones would go too long without praising his in-house quarterback options, did you?
Jones, who famously loves to talk up his players, was at it already on Monday with praise for Dak Prescott and Jameill Showers, a rookie and a 2015 undrafted free agent.
“I’m more encouraged after this about holding our pat hand on a veteran than before this,” Jones told Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “As we go along and if we continue to see this kind of improvement and this kind of instinctive play, I can really get comfortable back there.
“Both of those guys played well. It was what you wanted to see. They looked comfortable and they reacted well when you got a little pressure. It was a good outing. It was good for everyone to see. To me that was one of the pluses.”
Does this mean that the Cowboys will stop looking for a veteran? No way. It may be as simple as Jones trying to avoid projecting an air of desperation. Remember, just last year, Jones was hyping up an unheralded backup a matter of weeks before releasing him and throwing him under the bus in the process. It’s just what Jones does.
