Jim Harbaugh unveils new nickname for Justin Herbert
Justin Herbert led the Los Angeles Chargers to their third consecutive victory on Sunday, and the latest performance earned him a new nickname from his head coach.
Herbert was an efficient 14/18 for 164 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers’ 27-17 win over the Tennessee Titans at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. The quarterback also ran for 32 yards and a score.
After the game, Harbaugh was asked if he was more impressed with Herbert’s arms or legs in the victory. The coach said he is going to start referring to Herbert as “beast.”
“Oh, all — I’m changing his name to Beast. He’s Beast Herbert … half man, half beast,” Harbaugh said. “He made the two biggest plays of the game. The fourth-down touchdown run that he made, I don’t know how many people we blocked or who actually blocked or who didn’t, but there was a lot of unblocked guys. He just went beast mode and got that ball into the end zone. And then the sack. It appeared like it was a sack-fumble. The strength that it took to hold onto the ball while getting hit, there’s probably nobody else on the planet that could have done that.”

The 6-foot-6, 236-pound Herbert is one of the most physically gifted players in the NFL. He is similar to Josh Allen in that he has incredible arm strength but is also capable of making throws outside the pocket and scrambling for big gains when needed.
Harbaugh is quite possibly Herbert’s biggest fan, and the coach has had some very entertaining ways of showing it. The latest is a flattering new nickname for the quarterback after L.A’s 6-3 start to the season.
