Jimmy Johnson addresses beef with Jerry Jones prior to Ring of Honor ceremony

Pro Football Hall of Famer Jimmy Johnson on Saturday finally received his long-overdue induction into the Dallas Cowboys’ Ring of Honor. With the holdout over, Johnson appears ready to move on from any animosity with team owner Jerry Jones.

Jones has long had a history of snubbing Johnson, despite the latter’s huge contributions to the Cowboys’ success in the 1990s. Johnson’s 5-year run as Dallas’ head coach yielded back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 1992 and 1993.

However, it’s widely known that Johnson and Jones butted heads during their time working together. The disagreements eventually led to Johnson’s departure from the Cowboys after their second Super Bowl victory.

During a press conference before the Ring of Honor ceremony, Jones was asked about how difficult it was to finally give credit to Johnson. But before Jones could muster an answer, Johnson responded for him.

“I think we’re past who gets credit,” Johnson said, via Pro Football Talk’s Charean Williams. “The two of us, working together, made history. When I say working together, we talked every single day. I don’t ever recall — ever — us having a difference of opinion. I can’t ever remember an argument. We were always on the same page. So, the credit needs to go to a lot of people — Jerry, Jimmy, a bunch of assistant coaches, great players. . . . So, a lot of people take credit.”

Jerry Jones was asked how difficult it was to give Jimmy Johnson credit.

Jimmy cut him off and gave the best answer you’ll hear all day.

Jones had previously promised to induct Johnson into the team’s Ring of Honor during a FOX pregame broadcast in 2021 (video here).

It took two years, but Jones finally fulfilled his promise.
