John Lynch: 49ers will take Reuben Foster situation into account in free agency

Reuben Foster

The San Francisco 49ers have been thrown into a difficult situation by linebacker Reuben Foster, and general manager John Lynch admitted it will factor into their offseason plans.

Foster was arrested on charges of domestic violence earlier this month, and Lynch admitted the arrest and possibility of NFL punishment adds uncertainty to the offseason.

“You have to take those things into account on every situation,” Lynch said, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. “Everything in this league is fluid, so you have to be able to move quickly and kind of adjust philosophies. Yeah, that will be something that we have to take into account, whether it’s in free agency, re-signing our own guys or whether it be in the draft. That’s certainly something we’re aware of and are taking into account.”

Lynch said the team has been in contact with Foster since his arrest.

“We have talked with Reuben and the context in a broad sense of what we discussed with Reuben is just our expectations for him and our expectations for all our players,” Lynch said. “We have a high standard. We made that very clear with him. We remain in communication.”

The 49ers aren’t rushing to conclusions on how to handle Foster’s situation, but there is clearly enough concern here that they’re taking it into account.
