The Atlanta Falcons have a tough test to begin their season on the road against the Minnesota Vikings, and they may have to face it without arguably their most important offensive player.
Julio Jones is still seeking a new contract from the Falcons, though he has been practicing with the team while the two sides negotiate a deal. However, he would not commit to playing on Sunday while speaking with reporters Thursday. Jones didn’t have much to say about his contract situation and added that he is also dealing with some soreness.
Julio Jones: "I don't know" if I'll play Sunday regarding contract situation … also mentioned he's a little sore, so kinda hinting about injury too.

Asked a follow-up later, Julio Jones said he "plans on playing." Still seemed to leave it up in the air by saying "I don't know" as to if he will actually play Sunday.

Jones definitely wants a new contract, but the comment about being sore is noteworthy. He missed some time during the offseason with a foot injury, and he was spotted wearing two different shoes at Thursday’s practice. He also appeared to be running at less than full speed.
Jones is set to make $9.4 million this season and the Falcons have acknowledged that he wants a new contract, though it does not sound like the situation has been a distraction for the team. He had 113 catches for 1,677 yards last year and has surpassed 1,400 yards receiving in each of the last five seasons.
