Kai Forbath, Mike Nugent among kickers Patriots trying out
The New England Patriots are in the market for a new kicker after placing Stephen Gostkowski on injured reserve due to a hip injury that will require season-ending surgery. On Wednesday, the AFC East-leading squad looked to address the position.
Kai Forbath and Mike Nugent are among the kickers who tried out for the Patriots, according to both Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport. Rapoport says the team is not expected to sign anyone on Wednesday.
Forbath, 32, spent four seasons as the Washington Redskins’ kicker, two with Minnesota, and kicked three games for the Jags last year. He is 120/140 (85.7 percent) on field goals in his career. He was brutal on extra points with the Vikings, going 45/53 (84.9 percent).
Nugent, 37, kicked seven seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals and four for the New York Jets. He has made 253/311 field goals (81.4 percent) and is 42/51 (82.3 percent) on extra points since 2016.
The two are among the better free agent kickers.
