It is unclear how long the 35-year-old kicker has been dealing with the hip issue. If it’s been lingering for a while, it might serve as an explanation for why he’s missed four extra points on the season.
News of Gostkowski’s IR stint was accompanied by the reports that the Patriots are working out other kickers. Whoever gets the role now will have to try to hold it for the remainder of the season, as the incumbent kicker won’t be coming back in 2019.
