Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III had an extra special guest in attendance for his MVP-winning performance in Super Bowl 60.
For the first time in Walker’s NFL career, the Seahawks star’s father, Kenneth Walker Jr., came out to watch him play in person. Walker Jr. was in the stands alongside Walker III’s mother and little brother.
During his postgame press conference, the Super Bowl 60 MVP was asked about what his family’s support meant to him. He revealed how his dad finally got convinced to attend one of his games live.
“It means a lot, especially my little brother and my dad,” Walker III said. “My dad, he comes out to Seattle a lot to watch games, but he never goes to the game because he doesn’t like crowds. So this is his first NFL game, and we won a Super Bowl, so it means a lot to me. I know he’s proud of me for real.”
“I wasn’t the one that convinced him [to come], actually. My agent convinced him to come out here.”
Walker added that he “didn’t think he would come,” but shared that his father ended up getting mic’d up for the contest. It’s easy to respect a man willing to get out of his comfort zone for his own flesh and blood.
The Seahawks running back gave his dad plenty to cheer about during Sunday’s game, rushing for 135 yards on 27 carries. He had a potential touchdown called back due to a holding penalty, but still did enough to win the Super Bowl MVP trophy.
David Cantor, Walker’s agent, also deserves credit for his expert negotiating skills. He’ll have another chance to earn his paycheck in March, when Walker hits free agency fresh off winning the Super Bowl.
