The San Francisco 49ers might be without starting quarterback Brock Purdy in Week 2 and beyond.
Purdy suffered toe and shoulder injuries during San Francisco’s 17-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash. He went 26/35 for 277 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions and finished the game.
On Wednesday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Purdy is a “long shot” to play in Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. Shanahan also said it is “possible” Purdy will miss multiple games.
“I think it’s a long shot.”

If Purdy cannot play, Mac Jones will start in his place. Jones appeared in 10 games with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season and completed 65.3% of his passes for 1,672 yards, 8 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.
Niners star tight end George Kittle suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s game and has been placed on injured reserve, which means he will miss at least the next five games.
The 49ers are already without Brandon Aiyuk, who is working his way back from a knee injury. Their offense could be extremely shorthanded in New Orleans.
