Report: Kyler Murray wants Cardinals to draft ex-teammate CeeDee Lamb
Kyler Murray is apparently trying to use the pull he has in the Arizona Cardinals organization to make a reunion from his old college days happen.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported on Monday that the Cardinals quarterback has campaigned for the team to draft wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, his former University of Oklahoma teammate, with the No. 8 overall pick.
The two players were teammates on the Sooners for two seasons, and Lamb was a favorite target of Murray during Murray’s Heisman Trophy-winning campaign in 2018. That year, Lamb caught 65 passes for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns from Murray. He also had an even bigger 2019 season for OU upon Murray’s departure for the NFL.
As for the Cardinals, they might not be inclined to use their top pick to add another wideout to the mix after trading for DeAndre Hopkins this offseason to go along with incumbent pieces like Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk. Management still seems open to going with a receiver at No. 8 though, and that willingness might be in no small part due to Murray’s preferences.
