Michael Robinson: Marshawn Lynch considering retirement

Marshawn Lynch Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are trying to figure out what to do with Marshawn Lynch as he enters the final year of his contract. There’s one thing Lynch could do that would make the team’s decision quite simple.

Former Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson, who was teammates with Lynch for four seasons, said on Thursday that he believes Lynch is considering retirement.

“I don’t think Marshawn knows yet,” Robinson 710 ESPN Seattle. “It’s a grind. I don’t think people really understand that families are affected by playing football, your schedule, your whole life. People say, ‘Yeah, you make a lot of money,’ but there are some sacrifices there.

“I think Marshawn is just getting into a point in his life where maybe he wants to enjoy other things in life, maybe other things are becoming important to him.”

There was some speculation that the Seahawks could cut Lynch before the 2014 season. They chose not to, and instead rode him to another Super Bowl appearance. The 28-year-old battled some back issues, but he appeared in every game, rushed for over 1,300 yards and scored 17 total touchdowns.

Before the Super Bowl, a report indicated that the Seahawks have offered Lynch a massive contract extension and want to reward him for being one of the best backs in the league for several seasons.

Lynch doesn’t seem like the type of guy who would be motivated by money. If you’re unfamiliar with how much he despises the media, just watch this interview. If Marshawn doesn’t want to play football anymore, no amount of money will change his mind. And if that winds up being the case, the Seahawks will need to find a way to replace their most important offensive player.
