At least one NFL team has a rather stunning opinion on the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday that one team does not have a first-round grade on any of the quarterbacks in the 2025 draft class. That includes Cam Ward, who is still seen as likely to go No. 1 overall.
Schefter added that one other executive told him Ward would have been the seventh-rated quarterback in last year’s class, which included the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., JJ McCarthy, and Bo Nix.
All of this underlines the big risks teams would be taking if they were to take a quarterback early in the first round. This group, led by Ward and Shedeur Sanders, simply is not seen as elite by most evaluators. Despite that, it is rather shocking to hear that there is one team that does not even have a first-round grade on the likely No. 1 pick.
Takes like this continue to raise questions about the stock of Sanders, who was once seen as a possibility to go No. 3 overall. That appears significantly less likely now.
The Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 pick, and for now they appear content to stand pat and select Ward. That was not a sure thing earlier in the process, and in many ways, that underlines the major doubts about the quality of this year’s quarterback class.
