Sammy Watkins skipped Bills voluntary workouts to hit a casino
Buffalo Bills voluntary workouts started on Monday, but one notable name was missing: Sammy Watkins.
Watkins, as it turned out, was spotted at a World Series of Poker event at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino in North Carolina on Monday night, and posted a Facebook photo seemingly confirming his whereabouts.
Rex Ryan doesn’t seem overly concerned by the absence, though he didn’t refer to Watkins specifically.
“I know we had a great turnout for [the] voluntary deal; we weren’t 100-percent for attendance, but a couple of guys gave me phone calls, all that stuff,” Ryan said, via Mike Rodak of ESPN. “I won’t get into specifics on who was here and who wasn’t here because it is voluntary, but I’m encouraged by the turnout we have and everybody’s I think excited to get this season going.”
“I said I wasn’t going to talk about anybody being here or not being here,” Ryan said when asked specifically about Watkins.
It was a voluntary workout, and thus this isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of this. But when you consider the comments Watkins made late last season, it’s not a great look.
