Man who was allegedly shot at by Antonio Brown arrested over Super Bowl protest

A performer who made a political statement during the Super Bowl LIX halftime has been arrested months after the game, and the man has a link to Antonio Brown.

Louisiana State Police announced on Thursday that 41-year-old New Orleans artist Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on charges of resisting an officer and disturbing the peace by interruption of a lawful assembly, according to The Associated Press.

Nantambu was detained during the Super Bowl on Feb. 9 after he stood on a car that was used during Kendrick Lamar’s performance and held up a sign that had the words “Gaza” and “Sudan” written on it. Nantambu received a lifetime ban from NFL stadiums and events, but he was released without being charged. He later said in an interview that he wanted to “highlight the human suffering” in Gaza and Sudan.

Police said an investigation after Super Bowl LIX revealed that Nantambu “deviated from his assigned role.” NFL officials confirmed that Nantambu had permission to be on the field but not to demonstrate.

NFL vice president of communications Brian McCarthy commended Louisiana State Police for pursuing the case.

“We take any attempt to disrupt any part of an NFL game, including the halftime show, very seriously and are pleased this individual will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” McCarthy said.

Nantambu is the same person who is listed as the victim in an alleged incident involving Brown that took place on May 17 outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami, Fla. Police reportedly say there is cell phone video footage that shows Brown got into a fight with a man, took a security officer’s gun and fired two gunshots at the man. The alleged victim, Nantambu, told police that one of the bullets grazed his neck.

A warrant was issued for Brown earlier this month on a charge of attempted murder, though it appears the former Pro Bowl wide receiver has been out of the country.
