Tom Brady signed yet another contract extension with the New England Patriots on Sunday, and there’s no better time to remind people about how many teams overlooked you in the draft than on the day you ink a deal that runs through your 45th birthday.
Brady was at the Hall of Fame over the weekend for former teammate Ty Law’s enshrinement, and he got an opportunity to hold his draft card from 2000 — you know, the one that shows he was drafted with the No. 199 overall pick. He shared a photo of the card on social media with an inspiring message.
I got a chance to hold my draft card a few hours ago. Never forget where you came from. pic.twitter.com/sqBgAbWLCZ

That seems especially appropriate in the wake of Brady’s new contract. Despite having won six championships, Brady continues to find ways to motivate himself. Some of them are the same ones that motivated him when he was a rookie, and being drafted 199th overall is certainly a big part of that.
Whether it’s by keeping his draft position in perspective or taking shots at analysts who think he’s going to fall off a cliff, Brady has made the chip on his shoulder permanent.
