Longtime ESPN anchor Jay Harris recently revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer, and he has now provided a positive update on his health.

Harris shared on June 5 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and would undergo surgery. The 60-year-old has since had the procedure, and he said in a video on social media Monday that it went as well as could be expected.

“My doctor said the surgery went really well — so well, in fact, that the cancer that was in my prostate stayed there and didn’t spread to any surrounding areas,” Harris said. “So, when he took the prostate out, he took that with it, so it’s all good. There are other details that I won’t bore you with, but the main thing is we’re all good and looking forward to July 12 being back to ‘SportsCenter’ and getting back to work.”

Harris had said previously that doctors would not be able to say with certainty whether the cancer had spread before conducting surgery, so the latest update is very positive.

When he revealed his diagnosis, Harris said his goal was to encourage others to be more vigilant and open about similar health issues.

Harris has been with ESPN since 2003. He has appeared on several different shows but is best known for hosting the late-night editions of “SportsCenter.” He said his plan is to return to his usual on-air roles with the network on July 12.
