Michael Jackson Statue Unveiled Outside Fulham’s Craven Cottage Stadium
If you’re wondering what singer/dancer/entertainer/child molester Michael Jackson has to do with Fulham Football Club soccer, you’re not alone. We’re wondering the same thing. Anyway, a statue of the King of Pop was unveiled outside of Fulham’s Craven Cottage Stadium Sunday prior to the team’s match against Blackpool:
The story behind the statue is that Fulham owner Al Fayed was friendly with Jackson and commissioned the statue to be made for placement inside Harrods, a department store owned by Fayed. But Fayed sold the store and needed to make alternate plans for the statue, so he decided to place it outside his soccer stadium. As for the lack of ties between Jackson and soccer, Fayed said “Football fans love it. If some stupid fans don’t understand and appreciate such a gift, they can go to hell.” Amen brother.
I just hope this doesn’t launch a disturbing trend of celeb fans getting recognition outside arenas. I’m not sure I’d be able to handle a bronzed Bieber in front of Staples Center. Anyway, here are more Michael Jackson statue pictures to peruse.
