Video: Shaq Flagrant Foul on Rodney Stuckey a Matter of Physics

Between the fight with the Rockets last week and this, Shaq sure has been getting physical lately. Some of the Suns players thought it was wrong for Shaq to be ejected for this foul on Rodney Stuckey, and Terry Porter said after the game that Stuckey’s fall made the actual foul seem much worse than it was. I’ll let you be the judge, and be sure to check out Shaq’s Newton-like explanation for the incident afterward. The video first:

Now Shaq’s explanation was simply classic:

“The law of physics states that a body in motion stays in motion,” O’Neal said. “And if you have two objects that meet in the air, the smaller object is going to fall much harder at the same rate of speed it was going. I’ve never been the type of player to take anyone out. I was going for the ball.”

I wonder who briefed him on that physics lesson before his postgame meeting with the media. No wonder Shaq was voted the funniest NBA player by his peers — that’s a pretty humorous comment. Thing is, when you’re as big and powerful as Shaq is, you have to know that your moves can harm a player far more than anyone else. He should be mindful of that. Oh yeah, and when you’re going for the block with two hands, you’re looking to take someone out. It was flagrant.
