Jesus Montero runs off field after losing track of outs
Catchers are generally lauded for being captains on the field and having their heads in the game more than most players. Unfortunately, that could not be said for Jesus Montero on Monday night.
The Mariners catcher ran off the field after Hisashi Iwakuma struck out Alex Avila for the second out in the fourth. He was about halfway to the dugout before reversing course after realizing the M’s still needed another out.
Montero generally DHs for Seattle, but he’s begun catching games daily with Miguel Olivo on the 15-day DL with a groin injury. This isn’t going to help the perception that he’s an offensively-focused catcher, not that that’s a terrible thing.
