Police, jewelry store explain what happened with John Henson

John Henson

Milwaukee Bucks forward John Henson went on social media to post about a concerning incident that took place at a jewelry store where he was attempting to shop on Monday.

Henson says he went to the Schwanke-Kasten Jewelers store in Milwaukee but was denied service. The former North Carolina star believed he was the victim of racial profiling and slammed the store for the way he was treated.

Now we’re getting the other side of the story from the store and police.

The store owner said in a statement Monday that they were concerned because Henson’s car — a red Chevy Tahoe — matched the one used by some subjects in a suspicious incident on Friday. The store was on alert because of previous robberies.

“The (police) department began to patrol the area and recorded the license plate number of a vehicle the police department determined was suspicious in origin because its plates were issued by a dealer and were not registered to the vehicle on which they were displayed. Based on subsequent conversations between the police and the dealer, the dealer indicated that it was possible the plates were stolen,” the statement said via WISN.

Whitefish Bay police say after they interviewed Henson, they told the store that they were clear to serve the Bucks forward. The store employee asked police to stay as Henson was served, but the police turned down the request.

Henson apparently told police the store has been locked every time he has tried to shop there, but the owner says he has served Henson before.

Henson also told police he gets his car from a dealership that has a sponsorship arrangement with the Bucks to provide cars to players.

Unless Henson has been masquerading as Sir Charles Lytton during his free time, it seems like this is all a big misunderstanding. Henson, the jewelry store and the Bucks have a meeting scheduled to discuss the matter.
