Manny Pacquiao in Minor Car Accident, Shane Mosley Fight Still on (UPDATE)
Though Manny Pacquiao seems to have superhuman powers in the ring, we know he’s as vulnerable as the rest of population outside of it. In fact, TMZ reports that Pac Man was involved in a car collision Saturday prior to his fight with Shane Mosley.
“Sources close to Pacquiao tell TMZ he was traveling in a fleet of cars after church today, when one of Manny’s security vehicles collided with the car carrying Manny.
We’re told Pacquiao is back at his hotel now, where his trainer, Freddie Roach, checked him out. According to our source, Pacquiao is just a little shaken up … but he’s okay to go for tonight.”
Though the news seems dramatic, it appears as if this was nothing other than a minor fender bender. Still, given how superstitious fighters are, you don’t want anything messing with your routine. Something like a minor car accident has the potential to throw off a fighter’s rhythm, and we can only hope that’s not the case with Pac Man.
What’s odd is after watching the final Fight Camp 360 episode earlier in the day, it was shocking to watch the way Pacquiao’s fleet of cars caravaned from LA to Las Vegas for the fight. I figured they would fly out there but they didn’t, and it made me think “Aren’t they worried about a potential car accident?” It’s so strange that the same day I saw that and thought it, it actually happened.
UPDATE: Lance Pugmire of the LA Times cites a Pacquiao publicist who called the incident a “tap.”
