Over the weekend, Draymond Green was arrested after allegedly slapping Michigan State football player Jermaine Edmondson. Green reportedly taunted Edmondson over his scholarship. As of Wednesday, Edmondson is no longer a member of the program.

Edmondson informed the university of his wishes to be granted his release so he would be able to transfer to another school. Michigan State has honored his request.

“In discussions with Jermaine Edmondson following spring practice and in the weeks thereafter, it became clear that Jermaine wanted to play a larger role on the team,” head coach Mark Dantonio said in a statement, via the Detroit Free Press. “After consulting with him in the summer, he felt it was in his best interest to finish his playing career elsewhere. We have granted his immediate release to transfer to another institution to have that opportunity.”

Last season, Edmondson, a defensive back, appeared in 14 games for the Spartans and established a career-high in tackles with 24. He also recovered a fumble on the final play of Michigan State’s 16-13 victory over Iowa in last year’s Big Ten Championship Game.
