Leonard Fournette on Derrick Henry: ‘He’s like a machine to tackle’
Leonard Fournette and Derrick Henry have been regarded as the top two running backs in college football. However, only one of them was invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony — Henry.
Though he’s down about being snubbed, that won’t keep Fournette from recognizing Henry’s greatness.
“He’s big. He’s fast. He’s like a machine to tackle,” Fournette said of Henry via AL.com. “That’s pretty much it. He has an outstanding [offensive] line and coaching. Same with me. And if you give him a hole, give him a crease, he’s going to take it.”
Fournette, who is in Atlanta for the College Football Awards show, told AL.com that he is good friends with Henry and said they have exchanged Twitter messages throughout the year.
Fournette, a sophomore, has rushed for 1,741 yards and 18 touchdowns this season. He was considered a Heisman frontrunner until LSU hit a 3-game losing streak, including a loss to Bama in which he was shutdown.
Henry, a junior, has rushed for 1,986 yards and 23 touchdowns this season for the Crimson Tide.
Who you think is the better running back is debatable, but one thing is for certain: Fournette is on the mark when he says trying to bring down the 6-foot-3, 242-pound Henry is like trying to tackle a machine. That machine also happens to be an absolute beast in the weight room, as this video shows.
