Sidney Crosby hit by puck in mouth, needed oral surgery (Video)
Sidney Crosby was hit by a puck in the mouth early in Pittsburgh’s 2-0 win over the New York Islanders Saturday and underwent oral surgery after losing a few teeth.
Crosby was hit in the mouth by a deflected slap shot from teammate Brooks Orpik during his first shift. He went down to the ice where a pool of blood formed.
Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said after the game that Crosby lost some teeth and needed surgery.
“Sidney Crosby took a puck to the teeth, and lost a few of those,” Bylsma said. “He lost a few of those. He had to have oral surgery. We’ll continue to evaluate and monitor that. That’s the report on ‘Sid’ going to the hospital and losing teeth.”
The Penguins have won 15 in a row and Crosby is leading the NHL in points. There is no word yet if he will miss any time, but his team is off until Tuesday. Even though Chicago was the talk of the league for most of the season, I still favor Crosby to win the Hart Trophy. Hopefully the injury doesn’t derail his season.
