Braves phenom Austin Riley injured knee warming up in weight room
Austin Riley gave an unfortunate new meaning to leg day this week.
Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker told reporters Wednesday that the 22-year-old phenom hurt a knee ligament while warming up in the weight room on Tuesday and will be placed on the IL, per The Athletic’s David O’Brien.
Austin Riley has an injured knee ligament, severity unknown, will be checked by #Braves doctors back in Atlanta. He’s going on IL. Was injured while warming up in weight room before Tuesday game, but only stiffened overnight, Snitker said.

Riley had burst onto the scene for the Braves this season, smacking 17 homers and 45 RBIs in just 66 games and winning NL Rookie of the Month for May.
Such weight room-related injuries, while lamentable, are not entirely unheard of among baseball players — it even once happened to another Brave.
