Dodgers’ Joe Kelly injured back cooking Cajun food

Joe Kelly

After a 2018 season where their pitchers were pan-fried by injury, that now appears to be taking on a very literal connotation for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told the media on Friday that newly-signed reliever Joe Kelly said he hurt his back because he stood for too long while cooking Cajun food, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

The 30-year-old Kelly signed with the Dodgers on a three-year, $25 million deal this offseason. He posted a 4.39 ERA with 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings last season for the Boston Red Sox, winning the World Series with them.

While there have been other strange food-related injuries in baseball lately, hopefully that andouille sausage was well worth it for Kelly.
