Mickey Callaway takes blame for pulling Noah Syndergaard from start
Manager Mickey Callaway took responsibility for pulling Noah Syndergaard from his start prematurely on Tuesday night in the New York Mets’ 9-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants in extra innings.
Syndergaard was pulled from his start with two outs and a runner on first in the bottom of the seventh inning. He allowed an infield hit to start the inning then got two straight outs before being lifted for reliever Seth Lugo.
Syndergaard was not happy about being pulled.

Lugo quickly allowed a single to Evan Longoria and run-scoring double to Brandon Belt to tie the game, taking away Syndergaard’s chances of a win.
The game went to the 10th tied at three but the wheels quickly fell off for Robert Gsellman. He allowed three hits, two walks and was charged with five earned runs in 0.1 innings of work, taking the loss.
Callaway pulling Syndergaard and things falling apart was all anyone could talk about during the game. The manager said he wished he could have taken it back.
Mickey Callaway says multiple times that he’d like to have the Syndergaard decision back. That’s not something you hear very often from managers.

Callaway has been on the hot seat all season. Blowing critical decisions like that probably will not help his standing.
