Shohei Ohtani gets revenge on Paul Skenes

Shohei Ohtani after a swing against Paul Skenes

Shohei Ohtani got some sweet revenge against Paul Skenes on Wednesday.

Skenes was starting for his Pittsburgh Pirates against Ohtani’s Dodgers during their game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. The Pirates got out to a great start, with Skenes holding the Dodgers scoreless for the first two innings, and the team’s offense scoring seven runs in the bottom of the second.

And in a matchup of arguably the best current hitter and best current pitcher in the league, Skenes struck out Ohtani on three straight fastballs in the top of the first inning. But what happened two innings later was a different story.

In the top of the third, Ohtani worked a full count before launching a 100-mph fastball out to deep center for a 2-run home run:

That is baseball for you.

Skenes could not have dominated Ohtani more in the first at-bat, and Ohtani could not have gotten the best of Skenes any more than he did in the second at-bat. They both showed what makes them so great.
