Brandon Jennings: It’s Time for Me to Become an All-Star

Whether you like him or not, Brandon Jennings has the ability to become a very good player in the NBA.  Try to push the image of him dancing to Lady Gaga out of your head and focus more on the rookie who dropped 55 points in a game on the Warriors back in 2009.  An injury threw Jennings off his game last season and caused him to have a disappointing year, but there’s no denying he sounds motivated heading into next season — assuming the NBA labor situation is resolved.

“Next year will be my third year and I need to establish myself as one of the best point guards and one of the best players in the game,” Jennings told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel via CBSSports.com. “It’s just trying to get better and better every day. Working with Scott Skiles (before the lockout), getting in the weight room, dedicating the summer to strictly basketball. It’s going to be my third year, so it’s time to become an all-star.”

If Milwaukee wants to climb to the next level, it will need Jennings to back up his cocky attitude.  There is no way the 21-year-old is anywhere near Derrick Rose or Rajon Rondo at this point in his career, but those guards have had better supporting casts.  Like Rondo and Rose, he’s an explosive point guard with game-changing ability.  However, he has a tendency to try to do way too much and take silly shots.  That comes with having to put a team on your back, but Jennings will learn how to handle his offense as he gains more experience.

While he has plenty of flaws like any other young player in the game, don’t be surprised if Jennings does indeed become an All-Star next season if he can remain healthy.
